According to Spire Research, the pet care industry in Asia is expected to grow 8% annually from 2017 to 2022. Within a decade it’s likely that China will exceed the U.S. as the world’s largest market for pet products and services. In 2017 pet owners in China spent $25 billion on their pets, up 27% from the year before. Pet food represents 37% of these expenditures with accessories accounting for 26%.
The pet products market in Japan is strong but stable and was worth about $12.6 billion in 2017. Due to the space constrictions in Japanese housing, many people have a preference towards cats over dogs.
According to the KB Financial Group, one in four South Koreans owns a pet and spends an average of $89.95 on them monthly. Euromonitor International estimates the South Korean market for pet products at $1.57 billion in 2019, up 5.4% from the previous year.
