Is China Manufacturing Still Beneficial For My Business?

This time in history, more than any other, there are more choices as to where in the world is the best place to manufacture products. There are more countries than ever, in various stages of development, working hard to capture as much business as possible, manufacture as many goods as possible, and import them into the United States of America. China manufacturing has, for some time now, been the “go to” source for increasingly more sophisticated manufacturing. With the increase in China’s manufacturer’s expertise, experience, and standard of living, has come a rise in labor costs. That is the natural order of economic development. However, there have been other changes that have come along at the same time that have also validated the natural order of an increasingly sophisticated manufacturing environment, which counter those labor rate increases.

With all of the choices available, China manufacturing is still the best “bang for the buck” because of the industry expertise, pricing, set systems in place, and the overall attention to detail that can be expected. Chinese manufacturers no longer rely exclusively on a massive number of unskilled workers in poorly lit factories to turn out mediocre quality goods. There are still relatively unsophisticated, labor intensive factories in remote parts of China to be sure; but there are also extremely sophisticated, highly automated factories manufacturing everything from close tolerance, high quality machine parts, to cutting edge, hand-held, personal electronics you probably use every day. Most China manufacturers are somewhere in between these two extremes.

These “in between” factories are the factories most American companies are interested in. To be sure, there are issues and challenges with manufacturing off shore no matter which country you go to; and, from our point of view, it’s always best to have a manufacturing partner that is on the ground in that country, with an established reputation, that knows the language and business culture. It’s a unique perspective.

ITI Manufacturing has that unique perspective when it comes to China manufacturing. We have been managing the manufacturing for a wide variety of products on behalf of our customers in various Asian countries for over 40 years. During those 40 years, as the manufacturing and economic situations would change, we would move our source-focus to different Asian countries. Our current focus is mainland China as we believe China is still the place to be. We are based in the USA and have a dedicated, full time staff on the ground in mainland China. We also have an office in South Korea. Our Asia-based staff works face to face daily with the China manufacturers as well as the Korean manufacturers.
